Project Overview
xRacket is a social app for racket sports enthusiasts, helping players connect, track progress, and compete. I was contracted (2024-2025) to boost user engagement and growth. After research, we found that users needed a competitive element to stay engaged. The app lacked a clear way to track progress, compare performance, making the leaderboard a key solution.
Key Achievements
MAU (Monthly Active Users) grew to 50,000, with a 15% increase in session length.
Match activity increased by 25%, as users played more often.
New user registrations rose by 12%, as the leaderboard became a key attraction for competitive players.
My Role & Approach
Conducted UX research to gather insights on competitive motivators in sports apps
Designed a dynamic and intuitive leaderboard UI that made rankings easy to understand and engaging.
Introduced tiered leaderboards, challenge streaks, and rewards to encourage consistent app usage.
Tracked user engagement metrics, facilitated A/B testing, and optimised leaderboard interactions.
Building a Competetive Leaderboard
After analyzing user behavior and engagement patterns, I designed and implemented a leaderboard feature that would:
Rank players based on match results and activity
Encourage friendly competition with tier-based levels and progress tracking
Give visibility to top players to boost engagement and retention
Motivate users to return with weekly and monthly challenges
Automation improvements made it possible for even non-tech users to onboard easily.
Average setup time was reduced by ~4 minutes (35% faster installation).
Initially, activation rates improved by 20%. With further optimisations, we saw a continued increase, reaching 28% over six months.
Customer support calls for installation issues significantly decreased, reducing operational costs.
